My new printer works beautifully! After I had recompiled my kernel with
support for the parallel-port, it just worked. I started by writing echo
'Hello World! > /dev/lp0
— and it worked!
That’s very good I thought, lets see how it handles PostScript… So I
tossed one of my physics reports at it. No problem — out came beautiful
LaTeX with equations, graphs etc.
So it certainly works. Now I have to setup Cups, so
that I have a spooler. I should also be able to share the printer, so that
the rest of the family can benefit from the printer :-)

My
printer
didn’t arrive yesterday, so I’ll have to wait until Monday.
I don’t really have that much time this weekend anyway, so it doesn’t
really matter. Today I’ll pickup my Grandma from Mols — it’s a 115
kilometer (72 miles) drive, both ways. She is coming to Aalborg because of
Kristoffers (my littlebrother)
confirmation. The rest of the family is also coming by train from Funen.

Today I’ve received a mail from
www.itbutikken.dk that said that they’ve sent
my printer! If I’m really lucky, it’ll arrive today — but if it doesn’t,
it should arrive on Monday.
www.itbutikken.dk has a really great Track &
Trace-system where you can get up-to-the-minute information about your
order. The page is update when they confirm the order, when they send the
items etc…
So it seams that I get a chance to print at least one of my physics reports
using the printer, assuming that I can get it to work properly :-)

Yes I know — I should update this page more often. But I’ve just been
busy lately… So let me just give you an update on what I’ve been up to:
Making Physics reports
Because we’re a little behind schedule in physics, we’ve had to make a
report every week for the last six weeks. That’s simply too much… But
now I’ve finally managed to write most of them — one more and I’m all
done!
The problem is, that we’re experimenting with the same stuff that we did
last year: we’ve made two reports about how radioactive elements behave…
It pretty boring stuff, and because there’s so many questions, you can’t
really just finish it quickly.
Sort-project
I’ve been fooling around with a lot of pointers lately — we’re writing a
program that implements several different algorithms for sorting a linked
list. It a project we’re making in our computer-science class, by “we” I
mean: Cookie, Ole and
Tais.
I’ve written something that resembles a Quicksort, but so far it can only
be called a semi-slow-Quicksort :-) It’s slower that a Mergesort
Ole has written, but at least it’s quicker that
a Treesort I’ve made…
Hopefully we’ll be able to optimize it a bit before the project it
finished.
Waiting for my EPL-5800PS
First I was told by www.itbutikken.dk that my
printer would arrive on April the 25th. But it didn’t show up — now they
say that it’ll be here on May the 10th. I really hope that they’re correct
this time.
It’s a shame that it won’t make it before I’ve finished all my physics
reports — I’m can’t wait to print my beautiful reports written in
LaTeX with a 1200 DPI printer :-)
I’ll try to make another update soon — but my first written exam is on
May the 10th, so don’t expect too much activity up to that “event”.

In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve made a
CVS-release of PHP
Weather. This means that
you can try out the latest code, even if you don’t have a machine with
CVS installed.
I’ve been quite busy lately, and since my exams starts next month, I’ll
have lots of things to do… But luckily, people are beginning to join the
project at SourceForge and I hope we’ll be
able to make a nice little webpage at http://phpweather.sourceforge.net.
